Alex Sink Enters Race for Governor

Alex SinkState CFO Alex Sink has officially declared today that she will be a candidate for Governor next year.

"In unique and challenging times like these, our state needs a new and different kind of leadership," she said in the statement to be released Wednesday afternoon. "Thousands of Floridians have told me they need leaders committed to protecting the middle class, strengthening our economy and giving our families a fighting chance. As a businesswoman and working mom, I couldn't agree more."

Clearly planning this campaign for some time, the campaign has a website already setup and ready to go at AlexSink2010.com.

Sink, the only Democrat in the Florida cabinet, seems likely to be the party's strongest candidate for the state's top office since Lawton Chiles. Her former career as an executive at Bank of America could become an issue that Republicans seize on.

"Some of the things that were her assets in 2006, won't necessarily be assets this time,'' said Republican consultant David Johnson.

Barring any surprises,  it's expected that Sink will face off against either Attorney General Bill McCollum or State Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson.

Both Bronson and McCollum are gearing up to launch their campaigns in the coming days.
