Former Senators Martinez, Mack Back Crist
Pressure continues to mount on Former House Speaker Marco Rubio to get out of the race for U.S. Senate and clear the path for Charlie Crist. Today, retiring U.S. Senator Mel Martinez officially endorsed Governor Charlie Crist to take his place in Washington, DC.
Martinez was joined by former Senator Connie Mack.
The Governor announced on his Twitter account at 2:59pm that "Mel Martinez and Connie Mack have agreed to serve as co-chairman of the campaign."
Mack held this seat until he retired in 2004 and was replaced by Martinez.
“I am honored to endorse Governor Crist for the United States Senate,” Martinez said in their formal announcement. “As Governor, Charlie has demonstrated a common sense approach to governing that successfully addresses the critical issues facing Florida. He is the type of leader our state needs in Washington.”
“I watched Governor Crist excel throughout his career in public service,” Mack said. “First in the State Senate, then as Attorney General and now Governor, Charlie has demonstrated his commitment to the fiscal conservative values I fought for in the United States Senate. I am confident that if elected, he will represent those values for the people of Florida in our nation’s capital.”
