Rumors Swirl Around State Cabinet Races

With Governor Charlie Crist running for U.S. Senate and CFO Alex Sink now in the Governor's race, rumors have been flying around the state as to who will seek each of the state's three cabinet posts.

Current Attorney General Bill McCollum is planning to launch his own candidacy for Governor next week. That leaves the AG spot wide open.

Thus far, only Democratic State Senator Dave Aronberg has publicly stated he will run. Rumors suggest Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp may give this race a look on the Republican side.

With Alex Sink running for Governor, the leading candidate to replace her seems to be Republican Senate President Jeff Atwater. However, the new rumor is that former CFO Tom Gallagher, who lost the gubernatorial primary to Crist in 2006, may run for his old CFO spot once again.

Trying to hold Sink's seat for the Democrats, several potential candidates have emerged. They include State Senators Jeremy Ring and Ted Deutch.

Republican State Representative Ellyn Bogdanoff might also be a long-shot candidate.

Current Commissioner Charles Bronson is term-limited and widely expected to join the race for Governor.

Leading the pack to replace Bronson is Republican Congressman Adam Putnam. He will face off against State Senator Carey Baker in the GOP Primary.

Former Suwanee County Commissioner Randy Hatch and former State Representative Rick Minton are leading the Democratic race.
