Crist Leading Rubio, Meek in Senate Race
Governor Charlie Crist got some good news today, in the form of a poll from Mason-Dixon that shows him leading primary challenger Marco Rubio by 35%. The poll was commissioned by PR firm Ron Sachs Communications.
The Democratic primary appears to be wide open, with Rep. Kendrick Meek holding a lead over state Sen. Dan Gelber by 26%-16% -- but the real leader is "Undecided" at 58%. In general election match-ups, Crist leads Meek by 55%-24%, and Crist is ahead of Gelber 57%-22%.
Also, in the gubernatorial race, Republican state Attorney General Bill McCollum has a 40%-34% lead over state Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink.
Bill McCollum would defeat Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson in a Republican primary for Governor by 39%-12%, but nearly half of Republican voters are still undecided in that race. If former Governor Jeb Bush got into the race, it appears he would win the primary with 64% of the vote.
It's important to remember that this is still very early in the election cycle and a lot can still happen, including the entry of new candidates into any of these races. Commissioner Bronson is set to announce his plans later this week, although it's looking less and less likely that he will run.
