Thursday’s Top TV Picks
"Ugly Betty" (ABC, tonight, 8 p.m. ET/PT) comes to a post-season end, which pretty much tells you how far the show's ratings fortunes have fallen. Still, if you're a fan of the show - and of Christopher Gorham's Henry - you won't want to miss this two-hour send-off, as Betty's best boyfriend returns to cause romantic problems for Matt.
TV's best - and, some would say, only real - dance contest returns for another summer run with the Fox premiere of "So You Think You Can Dance" (8 p.m. ET/PT). It's a wonderful program that succeeds despite Mary Murphy's screaming, not because of it. But she and the show apparently disagree, which means we'll get more howling rather than the more-desirable less. Buy your earplugs now.
Of course, if you want to see dance at its best, turn to PBS's "Live From Lincoln Center" (9 p.m. ET/PT, times may vary) for the New York City Ballet's production of Prokofiev's Romeo + Juliet. Anyway, you're better off waiting on "So You Think You Can Dance" until it gets past the auditions.
Two funny guest appearances boost repeats of NBC's "30 Rock." You get Oprah Winfrey first (8:30 p.m. ET/PT), followed by Steve Martin (9:30 p.m. ET/PT).
There is one more scripted season finale tonight, NBC's "Southland" (10 p.m. ET/PT). It's over-praised, barely watched and ridiculously grim, but it is new.
