Memorial Day Weekend’s Top TV Picks
Things are picking up at "Harper's Island" (CBS, Saturday, 9 p.m. ET/PT), which follows its most gruesome murder so far (Daddy being de-faced at the wedding rehearsal) with its most sickly amusing. No, it's not a very good show, but it is entertaining in a grade-C thriller kind of way. Anyway, it's almost summer and it's Saturday: How demanding can you be?
PBS honors the holiday a day early Sunday with its 20th annual National Memorial Day Concert (8 p.m. ET/PT, times may vary), broadcast live in much of the country from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna host the concert, which is scheduled to include appearances by Dianne Wiest, Laurence Fishburne, Katie Holmes, Trace Adkins, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Denyce Graves, among others.
ABC has a new scripted show of its own this weekend: Sunday's imported miniseries "Diamonds" (8 p.m. ET/PT). Judy Davis stars in this two-part movie as a senator who gets drawn into the secrets of the diamond trade when her daughter is killed at a mine.
On Memorial Day, NBC is offering a new episode of "Medium" (10 p.m. ET/PT). Allison comes to the aid of a possibly psychic bank teller - played by Allyce Beasley, whom many may fondly remember from "Moonlighting."
