Democrat Gelber Drops Out of Senate Race
State Senator Dan Gelber has decided to drop out of the Democratic primary race for U.S. Senate.
Gelber entered the race in January, but he said Saturday that Democrats need to stop their history of forming "a circular firing squad" by hurting their candidates in primaries.
That leaves U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek as the top Democratic candidate for the seat Republican Mel Martinez is leaving after one term. Republicans seeking the seat are Gov. Charlie Crist and former House Speaker Marco Rubio.
Kevin Burns, the openly gay mayor of North Miami, is still in the race on the Democratic side.
