Tuesday’s Top TV Picks
It's been an unexpectedly long road, but it finally comes to an end tonight as "According to Jim" (ABC, 8 p.m. ET/PT) wraps up its eight-season run with a two-episode special. For the finale, Jim chokes and dies - and must prove he belongs in heaven. Lee Majors plays God and Erik Estrada is the Devil for this final outing, which also includes a visit from Dan Aykroyd.
Over the years, "Jim" has become a symbol for shows that survive based on deal-driven price rather than artistic value. Still, if it was far from the best show on the air, it was also far from the worst. So best of luck to all concerned and thanks for playing.
Continuing a forty-year old tradition, NBC is going "Inside the Obama White House" (NBC, 9 p.m. ET/PT) for a two-night, two-hour, day-in-the-life special that mixes interviews with behind-the-scenes film. Brian Williams anchors this latest edition of the series, which last aired in 2002 with a visit to the Bush White House.
While NBC is reporting on what's happening now, ABC offers a report on what might happen next with "Earth 2100" (9 p.m. ET/PT). The question explored is what will happen on our planet if population growth, resource depletion and climate change continue unabated. Odds are the answer isn't going to be pretty, at least not for us. Earth itself doesn't much care.
