Poll: Crist Still Crushing Rivals Rubio and Meek

crist-rubioA new Strategic Vision poll out today confirms what earlier polls have shown, Charlie Crist is the odds-on favorite to replace Mel Martinez in the United States Senate.

Currently, Crist is leading his main Republican primary rival Marco Rubio by a huge 3-1 margin. The poll shows Republicans backing Crist by 59%-22% for Rubio.

"I cannot for the life of me figure out why Rubio is running against Crist for U.S. Senate," political columnist Matt Towery told the St. Petersburg Times. "I think it's stupid. U.S. Senate races do not get the name recognition that governor's races do, so if he's running for that reason, he's not going to get it."

In fact, the Governor's race could provide the more interesting GOP Primary match-up. Although State Senator Paula Dockery has not officially entered the race, the new poll showed that she would pull 28% to McCollum's 44% in the GOP primary.

“While McCollum starts off with a strong lead against a potential Dockery candidacy, it is not as overwhelming as would be expected,” said Strategic Vision CEO David E. Johnson.

Assuming Crist does get past Rubio in the Senate race, his prospects are looking bright in the general election as well. Democratic front-runner Kendrick Meek, a Congressman from South Florida, is trailing Crist by a 2-1 margin. Crist draws 59% to Meek's 29%.

In a hypothetical Rubio vs. Meek match-up, Rubio would win by only 31% to 30%. That's a figure Crist supporters are sure to cite with regularity as the campaign heats up.

  2. It's funny to see how the meida is sooooooooo inlove with Gov.Crist! Why is that? Maby because Crist is a LIBERAL REPUBLICAN? Just watch the whole 15 months of this campaign it's gonna be a love affair with CHARLIE......

  3. It's just reporting on a poll.

"RIGHT NOW REPUBLICANS ARE TIC’ED OFF AT GOV.CRIST FOR STANDING WITH OBAMA ON THE STIMULUS PACKAGE DEAL AND ARE TIRED OF CRIST’S LIBERAL WAYS!"

I don't doubt that many people are upset by that. But the poll numbers just don't follow through what you're saying.

Things could absolutely change.... it's still a VERY long time until the primary.

  4. Austin is right. These polls are based on Republican voters (Gov Crist’s approval ratings in general are even higher), and I want to know the facts not ignore them. Keep reporting!

With Gov Crist at 59% of Republicans in this poll (which is even higher than the last few polls), and having by far the best chance to win in a general election, the math doesn’t add up for Rubio. 15 months is a lifetime in politics, so keep running Rubio and hope for a lucky break.

Blood in the water? You’d better check your own bandage.

  5. This title is a misnomer!

It should read more accurately "Rubio Rising!"

Contraire! The blog should report that Gov. Crist maintains a lead but former Speaker Marco Rubio continues to rise consistently in each new poll published.

Marco was initially polling at 3%, then 8%, then 18% now 22%.

You need to follow the numbers more closely. As Marco Rubio makes his way around Florida he is lighting a grassfire among the voters.

With the masses hardly paying attention this far out from '10, these new numbers speak volumes about Rubio's Senate candidacy and potential to win this primary against a sitting governor in his own party.

Florida Republicans are hungry for true leadership and commitment to principle and core fundamentals in our party. Republicans will find their candidate and message in Marco Rubio as the new numbers reflect.

Gov.Crist's poll numbers ARE falling, and Marco Rubio's are going up, that is the clear message in this Strategic Poll.
