Young Boy is Florida’s First Swine Flu Death
The death of a nine-year-old boy in Miami-Dade County is the first swine flu-related death in Florida, state health officials announced Tuesday.
At latest count, 417 confirmed cases of H1N1 Swine Flu have been reported in Florida since the outbreak began earlier this year.
Nationally, 45 deaths have been attributed to the virus that has prompted world health officials to declare a global pandemic based on its geographical reach.
“As the flu progresses that number will unfortunately rise,” said Florida Surgeon General Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros. “All of us should continue to be alert and stay home if sick, cover your cough and sneeze, and wash hands frequently."
