Week Ahead Features Important Reporting Deadline
Second quarter campaign finance reports for state candidates are due at the Division of Elections by Friday of this week.
The widely-watched reports cover the three months that ended June 30 and are seen by many election watchers as a barometer of early viability.
This reporting period will give a reality check to some, and a viability boost to others. Obviously, the most watched will be the reports by Crist’s and Marco Rubio’s Senate campaigns, and the gubernatorial campaigns of Alex Sink and Bill McCollum.
There are also a couple hundred legislative candidates for whom those statewide numbers will only be of passing interest as they look at their opponent's reports to gauge whether they’ll hang around to make a third quarter report in October.
One thing to keep in mind for legislative candidates – the period includes April, May and June and in April and the first week of May legislative incumbents were barred from raising money while the Legislature was in session.
