Bean Out of Race, Backs Thrasher for Senate
As first reported last week in the Jacksonville Observer, former State Representative Aaron Bean ended his campaign for State Senate today. Bean issued a statement to supporters that announced not only his departure from the race, but also his endorsement of Former House Speaker John Thrasher.
The official statement follows...
Northeast Florida lost one of our strongest leaders in the passing of our dear friend Jim King. Jim was a leader in our Republican revolution here in Florida. He went from serving in the back row of the Florida House to House Majority leader and ultimately became President of the Florida Senate. Jim was an effective leader for our area, and his experience (and sense of humor) will be sorely missed.
As you know, for over a year now, I have been running to succeed Jim King in the State Senate. The cornerstone of my campaign has been my conservative principles, and my experience of serving eight years in the Florida House. While serving in the House, I was proud to cut taxes, and work to transform our schools, reduce the size and scope of government and improve our healthcare system. While on the campaign trail, I was blessed to meet many new friends -- as well as receive the continued support from my past supporters - for this, I'm very thankful and will always be grateful.
Recently, my friend, former House Speaker John Thrasher, declared his intention to follow Jim King in the State Senate as well. John served eight years in the Florida House, his last two years as a formidable Speaker. John led the way, alongside Governor Jeb Bush, for the conservative reforms that we are so proud of today. John's effective leadership earned him universal respect and I appreciate his unwavering support of me during my first election to the House.
For our Senate seat, experience matters. I believe that John and I offer the voters of District 8 proud records of experience in our state's historic Republican revolution. The same conservative vision and experiences that we offer are actually diluted if John and I both move forward in this endeavor. So today I have decided to support John Thrasher for State Senate District 8. To those who have been supporting me, I want to thank you again, and ask you to give John Thrasher your utmost consideration.
These are difficult, challenging times. I am as convinced as ever that it's the conservative principles of our Party that will guarantee a future of economic prosperity and strong families for our region, state and country. I will remain engaged and involved on the issues that matter to us, and look forward to future opportunities for public service.
