Cathie Shimp Will File for School Board Special Election
Cathie Shimp finished a very close third in last year's School Board primary election, being Stan Jordan and Ken Manuel. Jordan and Manuel then went on to a run-off in the general election, which Jordan won by a few points.
Now with Stan Jordan leaving office to run for State Senate, Shimp has told the Jacksonville Observer that she expects to file for the special election to replace him on the School Board.
Shimp has experience as an educational consultant and teacher, having been twice named teacher of the year. She's a graduate of Englewood High School, got a Bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University, and did post-graduate coursework at JU, UNF and UCF.
Shimp said that she spoke to Ken Manuel and he will not be running, and instead will back her in the race. Shimp endorsed and supported Manuel during his one-on-one race with Jordan last fall.
