Martha Barrett Files to Run for School Board
After Duval County School Board member Stan Jordan announced Monday he will join the pack of Republicans looking to fill the State Senate seat opened by the death of Jim King, former School Board member Martha Barrett has now filed to reclaim her seat less than a year after leaving office.
Barrett is an executive with Bank of America and served two terms on the School Board, from 2000 until 2008.
Former candidate Cathie Shimp will also seek the seat. Shimp was one of the challengers to Stan Jordan last fall and narrowly missed the run-off election, placing third in the primary behind Jordan and Ken Manuel.
Both candidates will have only about one month to get their messages out to the voters before the polls open on September 15.
