TV Prepares to Cover Kennedy Farewell
Pick a channel, any channel, and you will find live coverage this weekend - either on air or on networks' Web sites and radio affiliates - of the events around Sen. Edward Kennedy's goodbye.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern tonight with a memorial service for family and friends at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, the networks and cable news channels will be on the job.
The same goes for tomorrow's 10:30 a.m. funeral at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica and the 5 p.m. burial at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C.
Here are coverage plans:
-- ABC's Charles Gibson will anchor coverage of the funeral, live, with George Stephanopoulos, Terry Moran, Kate Snow and John Berman, as well as Susan Milligan, Boston Globe reporter and co-author of "Last Lion: The Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy."
-- NBC News will air live coverage of the funeral services, anchored by Brian Williams. Coverage will continue at 5:30 p.m. with the burial service at Arlington Cemetery. Both broadcasts will have reports from Andrea Mitchell, Anne Thompson, Kelly O'Donnell, Lester Holt, Mike Taibbi, Mike Viqueira, Norah O'Donnell, and Savannah Guthrie.
-- CBS will have live coverage of Saturday's funeral, anchored by Harry Smith, starting at 10 a.m.
And the cable news channels - MSNBC, CNN and FOX, will be live, as always, all the time.
