Terri Schiavo’s Father Passes Away at Age 71
Robert Schindler, the father of Terri Schiavo, died over the weekend, the St. Petersburg Times reported Sunday.
He was 71.
Schindler and his family were at the center of what became a national debate over the right to die when his daughter's husband fought to allow Schiavo to be disconnected from a feeding tube while Schindler and other members of his family fought to keep her alive.
The question over what her wishes were and who should decide was fodder for politicians and was considered as high as the U.S. Supreme Court. The debate brought the Florida Legislature nearly to a halt for a couple weeks in March of 2005.
Schiavo's feeding tube was removed on March 18, 2005 and she died 13 days later.
