Tampa Mom Shot to Death While Holding Baby
TAMPA, Fla. - Investigators say a mother of four was fatally shot in the chest by her boyfriend Tuesday as she held her 18-month old daughter in her arms.
SaQuanda Simon died at the scene. The young girl was not hurt. Deputies say Simon's other three children were all in the home at the time, as were other family members, but no one else was injured.
Detectives say Cedrick Bontray Salter, 28, was the gunman. Salter was Simon's boyfriend and the father of two of her children, 18-month old fraternal twins - a boy and a girl, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Simon's other children are ages 10 and 7, deputies said.
Salter broke into Simon's home and confronted her after he couldn't reach her by phone Tuesday night, deputies said. After an argument in a bedroom, Simon walked out of the room with her daughter in her arms, and Salter shot her in the "upper torso," a sheriff's office new release said.
Deputies are actively looking for Salter, whom they say left the house after the shooting and remains at large.
