Surprise News: Meyer Won’t Retire After All
Less than a day after announcing his resignation, Urban Meyer has changed his mind about leaving the Florida program. He will, instead, take an indefinite leave of absence.
At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Meyer disclosed that he's been fighting with chest pains for the past several years.
"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," said Meyer in a statement yesterday. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family."
Apparently after spending a day thinking about it, Meyer felt he needed to stay connected to Florida and not give up the job he loved so much until he was certain about his health.
Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will serve as the Gators' interim coach until Meyer decides he wants to return.
