Pat Buchanan fails to understand how geopolitics works, opting instead for a simplistic isolationist view.

Isolationism is fine for an agrarian, 17th century Republic, not for an industrial, rich nation such as America.

Pat Buchanan makes a lot of sense. If we want to defend Europe we should tax Europe and the same goes for Asia. What if the city of Jacksonville decided to send their police ofrce into Clay county a protect all the Clay county residents against crime at the Duval County tax payers expense. Further more what if Duval County had to start borrowing money from Clay county residents and pay them interest to continue giving Clay county free police protection against crime. The Duval county tax payers would be getting double srewed. Not only would they be sending interest payments into Clay county but they would also be giving them free police protection.

The way Pat lays this argument out, we are protecting Europe and Asia with our troops and borrowing from both to pay for it. If we want to continue doing this, we need to either tax them or bring our troops home because the US is broke....
