Mitt Romney Coming to Jacksonville for Thrasher Campaign Kick-Off
The Jacksonville Observer has learned that former Massachusetts governor and 2008 Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is coming to Jacksonville in June.
Romney will be in town to raise cash for RPOF Chairman John Thrasher's State Senate re-election campaign.
Thrasher, who won his seat in a hard fought special election last Fall will have to run again this year.
Thus far, only a dermatologist named Charles Vincent Perniciaro has filed to challenge Thrasher in the GOP primary.
Thrasher, of course, was the driving force behind the controversial Senate Bill 6, a teacher merit pay proposal that was vetoed by Governor Crist earlier this year.
Perniciaro's campaign drew an almost immediate endorsement from Duval Teachers United.
Romney was last in Jacksonville last year on November 9, when he headlined the Duval GOP's Lincoln Day event. He's considered a likely 2012 Presidential candidate and is looking to reinforce his base of support.
In the 2008 presidential primary season, Thrasher threw his support behind Romney.
