Trailers: Is 2011 the Year of the Alien Invasion?

Sure, we had Skyline in late 2010, a somewhat low-budget alien invaders flick starring Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under) and Donald Faison (Scrubs). But 2011 looks to be the year we finally make contact... but not in a good way.

First up, in March, we have big-budget blockbuster Battle: Los Angeles. Based on the film's trailer, it looks a bit like Black Hawk Down meets Independence Day. The film stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan, and was directed by Jonathan Liebesman. His last film was 2009's The Killing Room, which premiered at Sundance and met with a generally positive critical reception.

If you still need an alien invasion fix, in June cable network TNT will debut a new "epic series" called Falling Skies about humans fighting a resistance on Earth against alient occupiers. The show will star Noah Wyle and is being produced by DreamWorks Television, with Steven Spielberg acting as executive producer.

And if you just can't wait for Battle: LA or Falling Skies, check out the trailer for Skyline, which will likely be available on DVD and Blu-Ray in the next few weeks...
