Talia Castellano, 13 Year old YouTube Star Died from Struggle with Cancer
Talia Joy Castellano, a YouTube makeup star, died from her six year struggle with cancer on Tuesday.
Facebook page, Angels for Talia announced her death, on Tuesday: "#prayfortalia It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22am. Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven and please send your love and prayers to her family during this most difficult time. God speed little one, may you be free from pain and suffering, may your soul feel the light and love that you brought to so many of us on this Earth during the short time you were her with us. We will miss you more than you will ever know baby girl."
Talia, at the age 13, was called a “professional YouTube Makeup Guru.” She began to experiment with makeup after cancer treatment claimed her hair. She posted makeup tutorials on YouTube, garnering more than 8 million views for one video and more than 750,000 followers for her channel.
Talia was first diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma cancer, a tumor that develops from nerve tissue in infants and children, on Valentine's Day in 2007 when she was just seven years old. Following chemotherapy, surgery and radiation she was cancer-free for one year, but in September 2008 doctors found that the cancer had spread to a small lymph node near her heart.
For the next four years she received various treatments, but after periods of remission the cancer kept on returning to other parts of her body.
She revealed on her YouTube channel that she had neuroblastoma and leukemia at the same time. Doctors suggested a bone marrow transplant as a possible solution, but Talia decided not go through the painful surgery and enjoy her remaining days instead.
Coping with Cancer!
Talia explains her cancer in a YouTube Vlog. Okay so I have two cancers in my body at once. Well pre leukemia which is a start of leukemia in my bone-marrow. There are not really any treatments for it. Its very rare to have neuroblastoma and leukemia at the same time. The doc wanted to do a bone-marrow transplant but they said it will be the hardest thing I have done. Also we could do a vaccine. But all of these are very very low chances of me surviving.
Talia dreamed of meeting Ellen DeGeneres and doing her makeup. In October of last year, her dream of appearing on “The Ellen Degeneres Show’’ was realized, and Ellen surprised her with the CoverGirl announcement that Talia had been chosen to be an honorary CoverGirl. She also sent Castellano to the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, where the teen was able to interview the likes of Gwen Stefani, Demi Lovato, Usher and Ryan Seacrest.
Once Ellen DeGeneres heard the news about Talia passing away, she tweeted "This year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her. Sending my heart to Talia’s family. I’m so sad.”
