Garth Brooks Tour 2014 Confirmed on GMA
After much speculation, Garth Brooks revealed to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that he has a World Tour planned for 2014.
While no dates were announced during the interview, Brooks said he'd be talking to radio stations about the 2014 tour later this week.
Appearing on Good Morning America to promote his new box set, Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decades of American Influences, and a DVD of his show at the Wynn Las Vegas, Garth Brooks was initially quiet about the rumors of him going back on tour. He joked that at his age, 52-years old, he's too old to resume tour, his trek would be "a wheelchair and walker kind of thing."
"Between me and you, I think we'll make an announcement very soon," Brooks told Roberts about the tour announcement.
"If you want to, you can make it right now!" Roberts replied.
"You sure? Well, you know what? Since it's you and since we've had a history forever, let's announce it." In a surprise move, Garth Brooks decided to announce his 2014 tour, "We're going on a world tour in 2014," Brooks stated. "I can't believe I just did that, but you are a doll."
Brooks' rep, Nancy Seltzer, told USA Today that the announcement was a surprise for everyone. "He honestly surprised everyone and himself," she said.
"It sure feels good to get to throw your hat back in the ring," Brooks added. "Our baby is a senior in high school. We talked about it, all my babies are fine with it. Ms. Yearwood is fine with it. So now I get to do what I love to do, which is play music. I get to be with the person I want to be with, which is Ms. Yearwood. My children are off on their own."
"My children are off on their own. I'm a phone-call dad now – that's where I'm at," Brooks added of his decision. "I feel very lucky to have three healthy children and they are getting ready to step off onto their paths in the world."
Right now, Garth Brooks is just a one-man show at the Wynn Las Vegas, but that is soon to be over. The singer said, before their world tour, he plans to bring his full band back to the Wynn in January for two shows.
Brooks announced an exclusive run of shows that will take place on January 3-4, 2014 in the Encore Theater at the Wynn Las Vegas. Tickets to four shows titled ‘Garth Brooks: The Man, His Band and His Music’ went on sale to the public on Friday, December 6, 2013 and are sold out already.
“I’ve been itching for the chance to bring my band to Vegas to play this room,” Brooks says in a press release. “I can’t wait. Steve Wynn told me I could use the theater anytime. I asked him when I could start and his response was, ‘How about New Year’s Eve?’”
"Wynn has allowed me to keep that room as a laboratory type of thing so I’m going to bring the band out there and let the band experience this room," Brooks said. "It's very naked, you’re just out there with you and your guitar and you depend on the people to kind of take care of you and they have my whole career and so Vegas was just a love-fest."
In July, Garth Brooks announced the birth of his first grandchild, Karalynn, who was born to his daughter August. August was the second to graduate from high school.
At that time, he told People Magazine, "Our children's lives have always been extremely private and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people," he said in the statement. "We have always wanted them to be individuals and not be known as 'someone's daughters.'
"I have been amazed and grateful how the press has always respected this. I now ask that respect to please continue as this young family begins the greatest days of their lives."
