Defeating Enemies: Foreign and Domestic

At a recent reception, newly elected Senator Marco Rubio of Florida spoke of waste and mis-management of government funds. He spoke of the crushing debt and the negative ramifications on generations of Americans- many not yet born. This is an issue that plagues America at all levels of Government.

New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Ohio, California, Hawaii, and Florida: all struggling with debt created by politicians who feel a greater responsibility to their contributors than they do to the people they represent. The paradigm can more-accurately be described as

“I can use these voters to further my career; then appease more contributors: to further my career”.

The Senator spoke of ending the massive rates of over-spending, and bringing sanity to the political arena. Senator Rubio and his common sense ilk give our country new hope. Hope that there is a chance to return our nation to it’s financial independence, and all the possibilities that she has to offer with proper leadership. The hope that our nation no longer has to depend on those who despise up to finance our draconian debt, or supply us with the energy we must have to sustain ourselves.

There are those who would stop this new breed of politician: these “Representatives of the American people”. They use obfuscation, insults and innuendo to divert attention from the accuracy of the issue at hand. Ad hominem attacks, intimidation, personal insults: all in the defense of their own careers and those who finance it. Their justification? “This is the way things are done”. The statement will often be followed by the assertion that they didn’t create the paradigm, but will exclude any attempts by them to change it with their own commitment to honor.

These are the enemies of America- as much as any shoe-bomber, or airline hijacker. Their destruction isn’t as dramatic, not as immediately evident, but like a deadly virus: they are just as destructive. Their narcissism and greed for influence corrupts any ideas they once had of representing those who believed in them as young politicians. They’ve lost their affinity with the people who believed in them. They now more comfortably assimilate with fellow abusers of the American people. They now view themselves as superior to those whom they once begged for support.

These old-style politicians aren’t identified with a (D) or an (R) behind their names; they are identified by their legislation. They are identified by their dismissal of Constitutional guidelines. They are identified by the assertion that “we have the power to do at the expense of the tax paying public. They are identified by their perspective that “bringing home the bacon”, or posturing “something must be done regardless of whether or not it’s governments role to do so”. They are identified by their insistence to work outside the bounds of their responsibilities as “representatives” and appease those who write the checks for their next campaign. These acts are just as heinous, just as destructive as blowing up a building.

As Americans approach the next election cycle, they should look beyond the glitz, beyond the millions of dollars spent to obfuscate the politicians intentions (improving himself) and elect those who not only parrot what they want, but agree with them.

There is no better time than right now.
