Mack Steps Back from Crist Campaign

Gov. Charlie Crist often calls former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack his political mentor. But Crist’s veto of the teacher merit pay bill has lead Mack to resign as chairman of Crist’s U.S. Senate campaign, The Associated Press reported. “Your veto I believe undermines our education system in Florida and the principles for which I have always stood,” the AP quoted a letter from Mack to Crist as saying. “As you can understand, I can no longer serve as chairman for your campaign for the United States Senate.”

Troy Stanley Launches Radio Campaign

Congressional candidate Troy Stanley, the Republican who is taking on Congressman Ander Crenshaw this August, has launched a radio ad.

The spot features patriotic music and Stanley hammers Crenshaw as having voted for a $700 billion bank bailout. It first aired today on ABC 1320 WBOB.

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Offers Up Miracle Cure-All Bank Plan

Democrat Alex Sink has raised more than $6 million in her quest to become the next Governor of Florida. But before she makes it to the general election, she’ll have to get past fellow Democrat and “economist” Farid Khavari.

Khavari is the most serious (we’re using that term loosely) of the other Democrats who have filed to run for Governor. He’s raised and spent about $20,000 so far on his campaign, mostly out of his own pocket. And a part of it went to producing this snazzy MLM-style video that explains the unlimited income potential Florida could realize if only we created a magical state run bank.

Khavari’s Bank of the State of Florida would charge people lower than average interest rates on mortgages and (somehow) pay much higher than normal rates to anyone who stored their money in the bank. And by not buying any fancy buildings and corporate jets, the bank will “stay out of trouble” and create millions of new jobs. (I think he ought to throw in a free case of Noni Juice for everyone in the state, just to close the deal.)

Rubio Raises $3.6 Million

Former Florida House Speaker and Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio raised $3.6 million in the first quarter of 2010, the most money he has brought in since declaring his candidacy. During the last part of 2009, Rubio raised $1.75 million. The Charlie Crist and Kendrick Meek campaigns have not yet released their fundraising totals.
